  Iron is one of the most important minerals required in our body. The deficiency can be a problem for our human body. In India, thousands of people especially women suffer from iron deficiency. It results from the long-term loss of the body iron reserves in the form of ferritin (it is a blood protein that contains iron). This problem is widely faced by women due to menstrual blood loss. IDA – Iron Deficiency Anemia can be seen in approximately 50% of all cases of anemia. This is a serious concern and must be addressed wisely.   In a study done by WHO (World Health Organization), it was found that this IDA affects approximately 800 million children mostly between 6 to 59 months. For treating IDA, iron bisglycinate chelate – FeBC and Polymaltose iron – FeP are used together. These show no side effects so are used widely by medical practitioners.  Ammonium Ferric Citrate is a compound with the formula (NH 4 ) 5 [Fe(C 6 H 4 O 7 ) 2 ] has a distinguishing feature which is that it is too much soluble in water whereas ferric citrate is less soluble in water. Each moiety of citric acid with its Crystal structure has lost four protons. The deprotonated hydroxyl group & 2 of the carboxylate groups ligate to the ferric center, while the 3rd carboxylate group coordinates with the ammonium.   Use of Ammonium ferric citrate ·          Ammonium ferric citrate is used as a food ingredient. It has INS number & is used as an acidity regulator. Widely used in the Scottish beverage aka Irn-Bru. ·          Also used for purifying water. ·          Ammonium ferric citrate is used as a reducing agent of metal salts of low activity like silver & gold. ·          Also used with potassium ferricyanide, part of the photographic process (cyanotype) ·          It is used as a contrast medium in medical imaging.
